Quickstart
From install to a committed change. A few minutes, a terminal, and a project to work in.
01Install
Run the installer:
macOS and Linux
Runs inside WSL on Windows too.
Windows
Then open a new terminal in a project and start Midas:
cd your-project
midasIf your shell cannot find midas, the install directory is not on your PATH yet. A fresh terminal usually clears it, because the installer added the line to your shell profile.
02Sign in
The first run signs you in, which connects the account your usage and billing are tied to. If it does not prompt, run /login inside the session. To sign in without starting one:
midas providers login03Learn something first
Get oriented before you change anything. Ask about the project in plain language:
Give me a tour of this codebase. What does it do, and where does the work happen?Midas reads the files it needs and answers. Nothing is edited until you ask.
04Make a change
Describe the change the way you would to a teammate. Name the outcome, and anything you care about.
Add input validation to the signup form, with tests, and run the suite.Midas plans the approach, edits the files it needs, and runs the tests to check itself. It asks before it edits a file or runs a command that is not already allowed. Approve what you want and deny the rest.
05Review and commit
Read the diff the way you would review a colleague's work. When it looks right, ask for the commit:
Commit this with a clear message. That is the loop: describe, review, commit. Skills, subagents, and MCP tools all extend it.
Take it further
One-off tasks. Run a task without opening the interface, and print the result. This is what you reach for in a script or in CI:
midas run "review the diff on this branch for security issues"Pick up where you left off. Continue the last session in a project:
midas --continueSee what it cost. Midas reports the usage and cost of a session, and totals them:
midas statsTeach it how you work. Add an AGENTS.md to the project, or drop a skill into .midas/, and Midas picks it up. Memory builds as you work, with nothing to manage.
